Rosary Sunday 5th October

 rosary beads

Rosary Sunday will be celebrated in parishes on Sunday 5 October 2014, which is also the Day for Life 2014.

It is the Sunday closest to the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (7 October) and it coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Rosary Rally of Father Peyton, as well as the Marian Year of 1954.

Rosary Sunday is an invitation to people in parishes, in homes, in religious orders to pray the Rosary for the intention of the Family, linking in with those gathered in Rome for the Synod on the Family.

The once-common tradition of the family Rosary links very well with the theme of the Synod on the Family in Rome which takes place from 5 – 19 October.

Prayers for Peace

Pope Francis called on all the faithful to"persevere in prayer for those situations of tension and conflict that continue in different parts of the world, especially in the Middle East and in the Ukraine"

The Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference has provided resources to help the Christians of Ireland pray for peace.

In your prayers you are asked to remember a prayer for neighbours of other faith traditions who are sheltering their Christian friends during these dark days in Iraq, Syria and the Middle East.

Please encourage your children and godchildren, parents and godparents to pray for those who do not enjoy religious freedom, a good night's sleep or the comforts which we take for granted.

12:00noon Prayer for Peace in the Middle East

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; ...where there is injury, pardon; ...where there is doubt, faith; ...where there is despair, hope; ...where there is darkness, light; ...where there is sadness, joy; O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek be consoled as to console; be understood as to understand; be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; is in pardoning that we are pardoned; ...and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. St. Francis of Assisi

6:00pm Prayer for Persecuted Christians

May the Lord support us all the day long, 'til the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in His mercy may He give us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman

Night Prayer for Families

God our Father, I come to say: Thank you for your love today Thank you for my family and all the friends you give to me. Guard me in the dark of night and in the morning send your light. Amen.
