Faith Development

Faith Development in the Diocese

The Irish Bishop’s Conference recently published “Share the Good News – National Directory for Catechesis in Ireland”. The Directory offers much in terms of inspiration, challenge and a sense of direction for the way forward. It is absolutely vital that faith is seen as a growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ, a relationship that has the power to transform who we are and how we live.

The place where this relationship begins and takes root is within the family. Parents are seen quite rightly as the first teachers in faith. Following discussions with the Diocesan Pastoral Team and the Board of Management of the Pastoral Centre a decision was made to do some research into how parents are engaging in the faith development of their children. The purpose of the research is to assess what parents want for their children, how we can support them and how we can build up the confidence and capacity of parents to help their children grow in faith. A selection of parishes across the diocese was asked to send the following questionnaire and cover letter out to every family that had a child baptised over the past twelve months. Primary schools in a selection of other parishes were asked to send them out to all families that have children in 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th class. The questionnaire and letter are available in both English and Irish. Any one from the diocese is most welcome to complete the questionnaire and return it by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
